Episode #37: We drink lots of Tioga-Sequoia



Remember when I went up to Fresno to visit the guys from The Perfect Pour?  This is the fruits of my labor.  We go through nine beers from Tioga-Sequoia and talk about them without knowing anything about them other than their style.

This week we have an all-star cast of brewers and beer geeks.  We have the usual cast of Brian Beagle and Greg Homyak and are joined by Brian Mitchell, our friend who happens to be professional brewer, Daniel Cady, head brewer of Twisted Manzanita Ales, and Travis Hudson from Brown Bag Beverage.  We blind taste test nine beers from Tioga-Sequoia.  While I know the beers, the rest of the panel does not and they give their honest feedback on what we drank.  In addition you will hear us talk about the news, What’s Tappening, and a few voicemails.

For you reference the beers we drank are:

  • General Sherman IPA
  • DDH (Double Dry-Hopped) General Sherman
  • Tecumseh Imperial IPA
  • TDH (Triple Dry-Hopped w/Mosaic) General Sherman
  • Firefall Red Ale
  • Sugar Pine Cocoa Vanilla Porter
  • Mocha Midnight Imperial Stout
  • Midnight Lightning Imperial Stout
  • Piece of Cake Dessert Stout

We get into some brewing tips, both professional and homebrewing.  The blind tasting allows us to talk truthfully about the beers, good and bad.  The pro brewers give their feedback on either why the beer is tasting the way it is or possible ways they could mitigate those flavors if those flavors were not intended.  We greatly appreciate the beer from The Perfect Pour and Matt from Tioga-Sequoia, we had ton a of fun with this episode.

Into the News:

Judge Tentatively Dismisses Blue Moon Suit.  Evan Parent had argued that MillerCoors tricked consumers into paying more for a craft beer by slapping a Blue Moon Brewing label on their packages. There’s only one problem — there is no legal definition of craft beer.  Article from BrewBound.com.

Rip Current has their first bottle release – Bourbon Barrel-Aged Black Lagoon.  Bottles are still on sale here.  (As of 11/2/15)
