Are you ready for some of the best people in the beer industry? You see them all the time when you visit your favorite brewery. They make sure your experience doesn’t suck when you are there. Of course, we are talking about the beertenders and tasting room managers! We have a full panel of the “Front of the House” folks who serve you. We are joined by Marta Swanson from Second Chance Beer Co., Shannon Lynnette from Burning Beard Brewing, Jacob Nikos from Small Bar and Societe Brewing, and Dylan Brown from Alpine Brewing Company.
First off, sit back and enjoy this show, there are a lot of ways this show goes. As for the questions we actually ask, we start with the beers they all started with. From there we wonder how they feel about the retail life and dealing with people. We also ask what is it they do when someone comes in for the first time. That morphs into how important it is how a bartender greets people compared to how a beertender greets people.
We take a break and come back in the middle of a joke. We do get back on topic with a question on how can you correct someone who is talking to their friends but giving incorrect information about the industry. We get into some of these beertenders’ special customers and how they treat them well. What about party busses? Does the Voice of San Diego Podcast Network know what they got when they asked us to join them? We also get into the conversation of what is the appropriate pick-up window for online beer sales. I wonder what do they look for when they hire a beertender.
Andy Newbom – How can we move from asking “Whadda ya want!?” to more “Hi! Have you had our X or Z before?” aka service rather than order taking.
Josh – What is a polite way to ask about clean draught lines?
- What’s the worst way of ordering a beer?
- When I visit a brewery, I always pay cash, I tend to tip every time I order a pint, $1-2 bucks, is this ok, or should I tip at the end?
- When I get an ”AWESOME” beertender, I tend to tip them personally (this is for you) & let them know they made my experience amazing, is this ok?
