We have a double dose of interviews for you in this episode. To give you a little behind the scenes on this show, we wanted to interview TapCraft but we wanted a really cool place to do the interview. When we asked owner Michael Peacock about where to do that show, he suggested one of the breweries where he installed their tap system, Circle Nine Brewing. We thought it was a great idea, now we can feature not only TapCraft but also the newest brewery in the Kearney Mesa area, Circle Nine.
We start the interview with Circle Nine. We are joined by Darren Baker and Andrew Campbell who are both co-owners and brewers. We wonder where their love of craft beer came and then go into how they plan on differentiating themselves from the rest of the industry. This leads into a discussion about lagers and how they visited Japan and joined in on a 400-year old festival where they gained some of their notoriety. Two of Beagle’s loves are construction and the program at SDSU, of course, we ask them how it was building the brewery and how the SDSU program helped them. From there we ask them what trends they like and do not like, and of course the biggest trend today is the “haze craze.” We take a short break and come back with Circle Nine to talk about some of their beers. We end with some side conversations and then come back with TapCraft.
Now with TapCraft, we come back with Michael Peacock and Travis Hudson. After the break, we are trying to remember who has graduated the SDSU craft beer program and where they are. Once we are officially back, we wonder where Peacock got his love for craft beer and how he ended up teaching the draft systems class at SDSU. During this, we find out all the different things that can be put through a draft system, one of them you might not believe it unless you heard it on here. We get Peacock’s train of thought when he goes to a bar or brewery and then orders a beer. That turns into a discussion of beer finance and a question for breweries and bars that asks the question of if they know how many pints of beer they are losing to incorrect pouring and too much foam. Since there was some real world news with a lawsuit pertaining to cleaning a draft system, we do talk about that with Peacock. You can read about this lawsuit here and here.
