We are at Bolt Brewery! Bolt could be the first brewery to open up after Prohibition in San Diego County, but you’ll hear that discussion on the show. Brian is out this week due to illness so we bring in our “Designated Pitcher” Travis Hudson, also known as craftbeerluv619. We are lucky to get both the owner Clint Stromberg and the head brewer Chris Angel. Are you ready for this episode? Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
We start where we normally start, the history of the brewery. However like we said before this brewery has quite the history compared to the other 100+ breweries that have started up in the last five years. After learning a little bit about the history of the brewery we then go into Clint and Chris and how they found each other. We find that Chris is like most brewers, he has to wear multiple hats and do many jobs around the brewery. We move the topic to their tasting room in Little Italy and why they decided to open a satellite tasting room so soon after opening the La Mesa brewery. So soon after opening Little Italy it is going through its own transition with the kitchen.
After a break we start talking about their trivia night. After a small tangent we get back to technical details about their brewhouse. We find out how they transport their beer from one location not the other and get an exclusive on a new toy they are excited to get to help with that distribution. We discuss their tasting room in La Mesa and how one certain days it would be a good idea to buy some merch from them like sweaters and hats. Is Bolt Brewery affected with the Chargers? What the heck is Dan Stouts? Is it their most popular beer?
We take another break to fill some glasses and come back with some beers Travis and I brought. This is also where the show starts to get a little random and disjointed. You’ve been warned again. Anyway, once we stop drooling over the beer Travis brought we do get into how is their La Mesa brewery doing since it is in East County where it seems to be the place breweries go to die. We get into the news and open up the Beachwood Brewing Invasive Species.
