Episode #74: Finest Made Ales

East County has had its share of strange happenings in the San Diego beer scene.  Breweries that closed temporarily, closed permanently, and now a brewery that has rebranded itself completely.  We interview Finest Made Ales to see why the name Butcher’s is going away and Finest Made is taking over.  We are lucky to have the owner and head brewer Rey Knight, the managing director Jim Serbia, and their sales ambassador Randy Lewis.

Interview

Rey gets into where his love of beer started.  We find out his history as a chef and why he had the idea of beer and charcuterie.  This love of beer and food started as Butcher’s Brewing, however it was a still a very small brewery with homebrewer written all over it.  The crew then delves into the change from Butcher’s to Finest Made and how it is have to sell a new brand when people have been familiar with the “pig.”  Randy talks more on selling the beer and what he does to make sure the beer is served properly on a bar’s draft system.

We take a short break and come back with Beagle drinking their hoppy pilsner so Rey talks a little about how it is made.  Maybe we found what Beagle’s next calling is, a beer buyer for some bar or restaurant.  We talk most about how Finest Made will eventually have beer and food pairings, dinner, or brunches.  That moves the conversation into having a brewery that has the community tables, larger wooden benches versus small tables.  We then move into the news.
