This is a San Diego BeerTalk first, we have our first phone interview with Dave Thibodeau from Ska Brewing. Ska is a brewery that has been open since 1995 (a year before Stone) and has been serving the Colorado beer scene. Like many 20+ year old breweries, they have expanded their reach and even distribute beer. Also sound like a certain San Diego brewery?
Since Ska was nice enough to send us some beers, we had already dove into them before talking to Dave. So naturally Dave starts talking about some of the beers we were drinking. That leads us into our first listener question. Dave then talks more about the history of the brewery and how they started. It leads us into the Ethos of the brewery and their really cool looking website. A little talking about geek culture and then onto their awesome World Beer Cup bronze award for True Blonde. (PDF)
We ask Dave how the scene is in Colorado. He compares it to San Diego and how collaborative breweries can be. We then lead into more listener questions. After the questions Dave gives us a great surprise and tells us that he listens to the show and enjoys listening to it! Thanks Dave! We try wrapping it up, but then get talking about their distribution here in San Diego, which just happens to be Stone Distribution. Ska also just happens to distribute Stone in Colorado. A perfect match in craft beer.
Jay from Hops Highway – @sdhopshighway – Ask them which Ska brew is the most popular here in San Diego.
Abby Heilbron – @AbigigailSD (SkaBrewAbby) – Top five concerts Dave has ever attended?
ChewYourBeer – @TPSSponge – Is “NoDoubt” Ska music? If yes, before or after the Stefani fame?
Cody from Three B Zine – @ThreeBZine – Ask them some of their favorite ska records of all time.
